College is a private, liberal arts institution
affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Though
Catawba College comes higher tuition at
$28,000 a year, the average annual scholarship award per
student makes up for that at $18,000, making
Catawba College a comparable alternative to most schools
in the North Carolina State University System. With a
student to teacher ratio of 11:1, the individual
attention students receive at Catawba College is well
worth it.
Catawba College was founded in 1851 and serves
approximately 1,400 undergraduate students a year.
Catawba College competes in 18 Division II sports and
has over 30 educational areas of study. But what is most

recognition in Theatre programs. Catawba College has
been ranked number 7 in terms of best Theatre program by
the Princeton Review. Students come from all over the
nation to attend Catawba College.
Keeping with the tradition of its mountain roots,
Catawba College comes complete with its own ecological
preserve. This is facilitated by the fact that Catawba
College owns approximately 275 acres. Catawba College is
a marvelously small college nestled on the southwestern
side of the Appalachian Mountain Chain, whose access to
larger cities like Asheville, NC, and Charlotte, NC
allows for further progression. Students whose aim is
for small class size with large opportunities can’t find
a much better private liberal arts education than
Catawba College.
